Your fridge has about 4 hours if the door stays closed. At hour 5, keep the door shut, use a cooler if you have ice, and check the FDA / Health Canada food-safety notes below. One calm step at a time.
Safety (all modes): Never run generators, BBQs, or fuel heaters indoors — carbon monoxide can kill. Stay away from downed power lines. Call emergency services for life-threatening situations.
Food timing (rule of thumb): A fridge stays safe about 4 hours if the door stays closed. A full freezer about 48 hours (about 24 hours if half full). These are widely published food-safety rules of thumb — see FDA: food and water safety during power outages and Health Canada: food and drinking water in an emergency. When in doubt, throw it out.
